Alumni of USG-sponsored Exchange Programs Meet in Quito

Former participants of Youth Exchange Programs sponsored by the United States Government attended a conference organized by the U.S. Embassy and State Alumni-Ecuador Chapter in Quito.  The group of fifty participants attended the workshop “How to Develop Successful Proposals” and listened to a motivational speech given by Pepe Jijon, an Ecuadorian mountain climber who has summited some of the highest snow-capped mountains in the world.  Participants represented a variety of exchange programs such as Youth Ambassadors, Study in the U.S., Jazz Envoys and International Visitors.  State Alumni is an international network of almost one million members among which there are 47 Nobel Prizes, more than 300 presidents and former presidents and thousands of ministers of state.

The U.S. Embassy in Quito is pleased to invite all public and private institutions working on preservation of  local culture to present project proposals for financing under the “Ambassadors’ Fund for Cultural Preservation 2010”.  The projects may include the initiation, continuation or conclusion of a preservation program and must be sent to the U.S. Embassy in Quito (Av. Avigiras E-12-170 y Av. Eloy Alfaro) to the attention of the Cultural Affairs Office, by December 11, 2009.  More information can be obtained sending a message to contactocultural@state.gov

A presentation of the results obtained by the Ecuadorian Alliance for Sustainable Tourism (AETS), took place in Quito.  Over the past two years, the Alliance, a public-private partnership, has invested in excess of $ 6 million dollars  for the development of sustainable tourism activities in protected areas of Ecuador.  The U.S. Government, through its Agency for International Development (USAID), contributed  $3 million to the effort.

An unprecedented collaboration between the U.S. Embassy in Quito, Armazon Music Group and various Ecuadorian and international artists, has resulted in the production of a CD entitled “Rapsurreccion.” The new album includes 12 previously-unpublished songs created by Ecuadorian artists and an international group. The lyrics have messages aimed at preventing the use of drugs and trafficking in persons. The work was possible thanks to the financing of the Narcotics Assistance Section in cooperation with the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Quito.
