EMBASSY
Welcome to U.S. Embassy, Quito official website!
Since its founding, the U.S. Embassy in Quito has been at the center of the vibrant U.S.-Ecuador relationship which includes not only political and economic issues, but an impressive array of educational, humanitarian, cultural, and social links. The Embassy has become synonymous with the longstanding friendship that exists between these two great nations.
Today the Embassy team is formed of approximately 185 U.S. and 238 Ecuadorian staff. The Embassy building, located at the corner of 12 de Octubre and Patria Avenues in downtown Quito, is home to U.S. Government agencies with operations in the country of Ecuador. Visa and Passport processes are housed in the Consular Section of the Embassy complex.
The Embassy is proud to announce that it will soon establish its new home in a state-of-the-art facility in north Quito. This building, projected to be completed in March 2008, will increase efficiency for the Embassy staff and will provide the safest possible environment for our visitors and employees.
The representative of the President of the United States of America in Ecuador is U.S. Ambassador Linda Jewell. Her Deputy Chief of Mission, Jefferson Brown, manages day-to-day operations in the U.S. Embassy and coordinates cooperation between government agencies.
On January 29, 2008, President Bush announced his intention to nominate Ambassador Heather Hodges as the next U.S. Ambassador to Ecuador. On April 16, Ambassador-Designate Hodges gave testimony to the U.S. Senate Foreeign Relations Committee on her nomination.
A vital part of the successful U.S.-Ecuador relationship is the U.S. Consulate General located in Guayaquil. This office became the first official representational office of the U.S. Government in Latin America in 1825.
