Mr. Koneff is currently the Chargé d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Quito, Ecuador. He has served as Deputy Chief of Mission since 2014. Previously, he served as the Deputy Principal Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Mr. Koneff’s previous assignments also include serving as the Deputy Executive Secretary at the National Security Council; the Director of American Citizens Services and Crisis Management; and multiple positions within the Department’s Executive Secretariat.
Mr. Koneff joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1994. He has served overseas in Mexico, Chile, and Indonesia. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Mr. Koneff was a U.S. Naval Flight Officer, flying P-3 aircraft in the Pacific and European theaters. He has a B.A. in International Relations from Cornell University, and a Masters in Strategic Intelligence from the Defense Intelligence College. He is married and has three children.
