Presentation on Martin Luther King Jr. at Benalcazar High School

Political Officer Jim Cohen spoke at Colegio Benalcazar on the importance of Martin Luther King, Jr., and his place in United States history. Approximately 80 junior and senior year high school students attended the presentation and participated in a discussion. The talk covered material on Martin Luther King’s life, struggles and consequent impact on the Civil Rights movement and legislation. Questions from students covered a wide range of topics regarding human rights and how they are interpreted in the U.S. including issues of race relations, immigration, the death penalty and even the country’s involvement in Iraq.
