To commemorate the U.S. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, the English Conversation Volunteer Program, with the participation of embassy officers and family members, was able to share information about Martin Luther King, Jr.´s role in history with students of Manuela Canizares High School. This outreach effort for public schools in the city supports English programs by allowing students to engage in conversations with native speakers in order to expose them to different accents and experiences. Over 150 junior and senior year students engage in activities with volunteers every other week in a three-session program. On this occasion the volunteers talked about the legacy of the U. S. Civil Rights leader and the students prepared presentations about parallel figures in Ecuadorian history and human rights in general. (
