The Government of the US finances the Youth Ambassadors Program in Ecuador, a contest for high school students between 15 and 18 years old with excellent grades, intermediate level of English, and a genuine social commitment in their community. The Ecuadorian students that wish to participate in this contest must complete the application in English and attach the required documents. After an interview in English, ten Youth Ambassadors will be selected to represent Ecuador in Washington DC, Kentucky, and Washington State. The Youth Ambassadors will participate in this two week cultural exchange program in the US in the fall of 2009.

Youth Leadership Program

The Government of the US finances the Youth Leadership Program, a contest for high school students between 15 and 18 years old, from the Eastern valleys of the province of Pichincha or Imbabura, who have excellent grades, basic English skills, and actively participate in social or environmental projects. The students from the provinces that wish to participate in the contest should complete the application in Spanish and attach the required documents. The ten Youth Leaders that will represent Ecuador in Washington State for four weeks will be selected through an interview of the finalists. The 2008 Youth Leaders participated in the cultural exchange from March 27, 2008 through April 25, 2008.

Ecuador-United States Jazz Envoys

The US Embassy in Quito supports the “Ecuador–United States Jazz Envoys Program” with the support of the University of San Francisco of Quito, Jazz Masters in Ecuador, and Jamey Aebersold’s summer jazz camp. The music students who wish to participate in this contest must be Ecuadorian citizens between 18 and 30 years old at the date of inscription, speak basic English, and participate in an audition. The selected students will travel to the Jamey Aebersold summer jazz camp for training in technique and improvisation and to Washington DC on a two week cultural exchange. After their return, the Jazz Envoy will offer concerts and workshops in Ecuador from August to December. On July 7, 2008, the 2008 Jazz Envoy performed on the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.
