General Information about Visa System

The Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs continues to make progress restoring our nonimmigrant visa system to full functionality.  Over the weekend, the Department of State implemented system changes aimed at optimizing performance and addressing the challenges we have faced. We are now testing our system capacity to ensure stability.  Processing of immigrant visas cases, including adoptions, remains a high priority.  Some Embassies and Consulates may temporarily limit or reschedule nonimmigrant visa interview appointments until more system resources become available to process these new applications.

We sincerely regret the inconvenience to travelers, and are committed to resolving the problem as soon as possible.  Additional updates will be posted to travel.state.gov as more information becomes available.

Welcome to the Non-Immigrant section of the American Embassy in Quito.  Considering your interest in visiting the United States, we hope that the information available on the website will help you in the process of applying for the visa.

Ecuador contains two locations where you can apply for a visa – the Embassy in Quito and the Consulate in Guayaquil.  Please choose the location that best suits your needs regarding timing and travel.  If you would like to know the current wait time to get an appointment, please refer to the Visa Wait Times web site.

The type of visa required will depend on the purpose of your travel.  For information on the application process, please review the steps that are detailed on the right side of this page.

The Embassy urges travelers to apply for visas with as much time in advance as possible.  No assurances regarding the issuance of visas can be given before the visa interview.  Therefore, final travel plans or the purchase of non-refundable ticket should not be made until a visa has been issued and you have received your passport via DHL.
